Be sure to check out all of the Choral Music Fun in 2016 - 2017!
After many years on the old risers (which were quickly losing stability), we received permission to purchase three new sets of risers. This semester we will be raising money for a 4th so that our bigger classes of 30 people will be able to fit more comfortably. Now if only the students would remember to return their books and music at the end of class!
Team building is a vital part of the choral classroom setting. All singers need to learn to work together in order to create a harmonious, unified sound.
Before Christmas Break, two students from Middle School Meistersingers showed me this original song they wrote. They gave me permission to post it here so you could enjoy it as well! This is "Tricks and Games" by Anna Howard and Chambers Eckles:
At the end of every semester, as soon as the concerts are over, we like to have a celebration in each class for all their hard work and musicianship! This year the Middle School Chorus students had Board Game Day and the High School Chorus went to Tokyo!
Today, High School Chorus and JIVE! A Cappella teamed up with the Gavel Club to go caroling at Great Oaks.
This year, we had the opportunity to do a combined performance with the Walton County Music Guild. We took the full version of Handel's Messiah and combined it with "Handel's Messiah for Young Voices." The students finished the concert with a wonderful performance of "Carol of the Bells" from both sides of the balcony at First Baptist. The 7th and 8th grade class also had the opportunity to do a "Mini-Messiah" performance for some of the lower school students. Special thanks to Janet Clark, our organist who took time out of her day to come play for us!
I caught these students singing and playing for fun during their free 5 minutes at the end of class!
One of my favorite concerts of the year. So proud of the students for all their hard work. Special thanks to the parents and teachers who volunteered!
Mrs. D is from Montana, the Big Sky State! She has a B.A. in Vocal Performance from Asbury University, M.M. in Choral Conducting from University of Kentucky, and is currently working on her Ed.Doctorate at University of Georgia. This is her eighth year teaching middle and upper school music at GWA. She is blessed to be a part of such a strong music community at George Walton and in Walton County.
